Quit Your Day Job 2008 and Beyond

Hi Everyone,
It's been a long time since my last update. I took a sabbatical from Quit Your Day Job for the past few months so I could focus on some other projects. I've finally had a chance to wrap those projects up and am working on the next version of QuitYourDayJob.com.
First, I wanted to let you know that I'm working on a new version of my e-book - High Performance Affiliate Marketing. I've never liked the name "High Performance Affiliate Marketing", but settled on it because I couldn't think of anything better. I've renamed the book "Quit Your Day Job - A Blueprint for Affiliate Marketing Success".
I felt the previous name scared away a lot of prospective customers by making them think the material was too advanced. Plus, there was a lot of brand confusion between the book and the site.
After careful consideration I decided I no longer want to sell "info products". Quite frankly, I hate the "business opportunity" category - I think it's filled with too many get rich quick scammers selling hype-filled ebooks with no real substance.
The fact is, making money on the Internet isn’t easy. It takes a lot of knowledge, hard work, and above all - persistence. But it’s hard to get people to understand that on an e-book sales page. Many think that if they just buy this one product or service all of their financial problems will be solved. This thinking is completely unrealistic and a recipe for failure.
The new goal of Quit Your Day Job will be to educate and support serious online entrepreneurs who understand the time and commitment required to be successful.
The problem is I can’t achieve this goal alone…
When I initially launched QuitYourDayJob.com I offered an e-book and a private support forum. I personally responded to over 75% of forum posts and e-mails. Unfortunately, it became very difficult for me to keep up on both QYDJ and my own affiliate business.
It’s a bit ironic, before launching QuitYourDayJob.com (and related endeavors) I had the “Quit Your Day Job” lifestyle. But after launching the sites I created a new full-time job for myself. My increased workload created a lot of unwanted stress and caused me to drop a lot of balls. Juggling my own affiliate business and two other projects was too much.
I decided that in order to keep QYDJ fresh and relevant, and maintain a good work/life balance, I needed to change my business model.
Rather than create a site where you’re the customer and I’m the business owner, I have decided to make QYDJ a community-driven site where we are all patrons.
As a gesture of my patronage to the affiliate marketing community and this site, I am now offering my ebook for free. You can get the 2007 version of the e-book using this link: http://www.quityourdayjob.com/hpam2007/
Keep in mind that while I am offering this book for free, it is still copyrighted. This means you can read it, print it, and use it to help yourself and others, but you may not (under any circumstance) republish or copy and paste any of the contents from this book to another website. If you want to give it away, please use the aforementioned link in this e-mail.
As soon as the 2008 version is ready I will be publishing it free on this website. The site has been redesigned (see a preview here - http://www.quityourdayjob.com/newdesign/) and will include new content, website scripts, a member forum, and a few surprises that I’m still working on.
In order for the new site to thrive, it will require active participation from the entire community. I’m a big believer in “paying it forward”. If you benefit from the content or dialog on the site, give back by helping someone else on the site. Don’t be the person who asks all the questions, but never answers any.
It’s important for me to emphasize once more that this isn’t a get rich quick site. If you have fantasies of driving a $200,000 Ferrari or becoming a millionaire in 90 days this isn’t the site for you. But if you’re looking to supplement your income, quit your day job or become financially secure – welcome aboard!

I often put down ebooks, but there are a few good ones written by people I know and trust. Jeremy Palmer is one of those people. He's a CJ performer, true super affiliate (not a hype filled guru) and ......
Okay, I am one of your big fans in terms of the quality of product you produced, the quality of your forum support, and your straight forward honesty.
I'm a bit disappointed that a product I paid for is now free... though it's true of at least one other info product I've purchased over the years, and I do recommend the product to other people.
As to a community, there are boards that have been in existence for many more years.
What will your board offer as a Unique Selling Point?
How will you rebuild trust for those of us who had been participating in your forums and then suddenly had no access? It's not like we don't also have the other boards we've belonged to for years.
It's exactly the beginner's Same Old Questions that some advanced aff markerters want to skip over in replying to in a forum after almost 10 years of online participation. It's exactly an advanced set of aff marketers trying to survive the multiple continuous changes of online business that need a quiet place with a higher signal to noise ratio than the regular forums.
I adore your honesty. It is exactly the weight of business models that become burdensome to lifestyle that often keeps many of us from venturing into new areas. Good for you for trying it, and even better for you for choosing to rebalance towards life after the experiment.

You may have already thought of this, but if not, Drupal looks to be a great piece of software to build a community-based website, something that would fit into your new business plan. I'm going in that direction when I build new sites.

I'm new on this site and I really hope the new version is everything I've heard the old one was, and more. One thing: Everything I've seen so far makes assumptions about knowledge, mostly that the newcomer knows how to put up a website or blog of any kind. Many of us don't.
Even more than that, the newcomer's biggest problem is definitely finding niches. You have to have some semblance of knowledge and definitely interest to succeed, and that's where most of us fail. The biggest successes in online biz are those who happen to be both experts in and passionate about a niche that was wide open for them when they started. Period. No one else has made it.

I have spent way too much money paying “gurus” to help me build an Internet business. It seems like it is all the same material, just packaged differently and with different price points. Being a newbie I agree with what Ana said… some of us need to know how to put up a blog, a website and how to choose a niche. I hope and anticipate that you will be able to make the lights go on so that I can get online – making money.

Being sick of the convoluted, over priced, completely UNunderstandable material I previously encountered from the "gurus" of affiliate marketing. The FREE e-book from Jeremy has been a blessing. It's amazing how it differs from the promises of "get rich overnite" and "make millions while you sleep" campaigns to an an honest portrayal of the affiliate business, which realistically entails hard work and no guarantees of success! I am a newbie and I wonder if the pros on this forum can respond: Is affiliate marketing over saturated? Have all the niches been filled and over filled to where there is no rooms for new success stories?
There is still plenty of opportunity in the Affiliate Marketing industry - and always will be. There is no limit on the number of products and niches to promote.
The important thing to remember is that it's a real business and it takes a real effort. Don't expect quick results - be realistic with yourself.
