My Success Story

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to do a quick posting to share my success story.

I started doing affiliate marketing in April of 2006. One of the first affiliate marketing resources I read was High Performance Affiliate Marketing and I attribute that to much of my success. With today being the last day of April 2007, I've been doing this for a full year and have seen some great success.

For the month of April 2007, my commissions were a little over $29,000. I've been making pretty good gains each month and hopefully this time next year I'll be posting about making $60,000 a month or more.

I've been a work at home freelance web designer for a long time, so that has allowed me a lot of time to focus on affiliate marketing. As I've made more money, I've started doing less freelance and started mainly doing affiliate marketing fulltime. I probably spend about 10 to 15 hours a day doing this, but have seen it pay off in a huge way.

If things go well in May, I should be a CJ Performer soon and hopefully on the way to becoming a Super Affiliate.

Good luck to everyone.
James

Hi James

Inspirational indeed! Great job.

Care to share what areas you work in, or seen greatest success?

PPL?
Physical Products?
Downloads?

No specifics needed but it's always helpful to get a feel for how the 'big gun' split their attention to product types.

Hope you hit your target next year and look forward to seeing your thread on 1st May 2008.

Thanks

Paul

Hey Paul,

All of my campaigns are in PPL. I think there's a lot more potential in this area, so I'll probably continue with PPL for quite a while.

Hey Sukarto

Not a stupid question at all. I apologize for making the assumption that everyone would know what PPL is. It stands for Pay Per Lead. It's when a merchant pays you for a visitor completing an online lead form.

I've found this type of campaign to work well, because it's much easier to get a visitor's email address than it is to get their credit card information.

Dear James,
thanks for your explanation. I just remembered that PPL is already mention in Jeremy ebook :)
I'll research for PPL also then. If you don't mind, do you find most profitable PPL program thru affiliate network like CJ or directly to the merchant ?

Congratulation for your success,

Sukarto

I'll vouch for leads programs as well - they make up 100% of my affiliate income :D

James congrads on your success, its great to see someone getting on.

A few questions if I may:

I assume PPC is your main source of traffic??

If it is, what was your total PPC bill for April 2007??

Also any other relevant expenses ??

thx

I wouldn't expect James or anybody else in this forum to reveal month by month PPC spend.

I've seen you ask variations of this same question in 4 different areas of the member forum, let me see if I can address your underlying concern.

I've been very open about my own ROI, but it's not necessarily a good benchmark for new affiliates to use. I've had a lot of time to test and refine my campaigns and have been working with the same merchants for a long time.

In '06 I made 150% ROI - e.g. for every $1 spent in PPC I made $2.50 in revenue (net profit $1.50). Some campaigns lost money, some returned double digit ROI, while others returned triple digit ROI.

As a new affiliate you should strive to become profitable first, and then work on improving your ROI and scaling the business. You may have to lose a little money before you discover what works. If you're tracking everything closely and following the advice in HPAM you'll minimize your losses and maximize your earning potential.

If a new affiliate spent $100 in PPC and made $125 in revenue I would call that a success. Where else could you invest so little and get such a quick return?

PPC is the best way to start. No other marketing method allows you to drive targeted traffic to your site so quickly. SEO is also important, but you have to know what keywords and customers convert before spending days/weeks/months developing content and optimizing the site.

Just found out Mr. Fiachra Kavanagh has bought my book twice in the past year and asked for a refund both times. Clearly things aren't working out for him. Unfortunately, when you ask for a refund you lose access to the forums, so I guess he won't be able to respond to this message.

Buying HPAM was the single greatest financial decision of 2006 for me (and 2007, 2008, etc.), as it was my introduction to affiliate marketing. I estimate an ROI in the neighborhood of 100,000% on the purchase so far.

I guess what I'm saying is that I think Mr. Kavanagh might have been well-served to stick it out.

Counting ROI (Return On Investment)

Boris_yo's picture

Hi Jeremy.

In High Performance Affiliate Marketing i saw your Return On Investment calculation formula and have question about it.

If your total revenue will be 2.50$ and your money on advertising spent will be 1.00$ then your ROI will be 250% and not 150%, according to formula below:

Total Profits / Money spent X 100 = ROI
which leads to the following:
2.50 / 1.00 X 100 = 250% ROI which means you are more than doubled your Return On Investment.

Am i wrong Jeremy?

That part of the book needs to be updated. I used the incorrect formula. Thanks for pointing it out.

No problem.

It would be good to update / add to the book section about ClickBank TID tracking.

Any suggestions on what would be the best PPL directories to join :?:

How to Promote PPL?

webtango's picture

Congratulation! James! I started my affiliate business in 2004, but have never tried PPL yet. It's a kind of big mistake for me. So, from your experience, what's the best way to promote PPL program? Send traffic to merchant's site directly or send them to your own site first?

All the best,

webtango
