What is the best book for a total newbie wanting to learn PHP? I prefer something that would walk you through building a PHP based site if possible?

I would recommend a couple to take a look at:

PHP Solutions: Dynamic Web Design Made Easy
by David Powers

Codin' for the Web: A Designer's Guide to Developing Dynamic Web Sites
by Charles Wyke-Smith

A few months ago, I purchased the PHP Bible and also PHP for Dummies, and have found both of these to be pretty easy to follow. The PHP Bible is a great all in one reference and the Dummies book will get you started quickly.

PHP 5/MySQL Bible is probably my favorite book for learning and reference.
