Are opt-in emails stealing my commission?

I've noticed that a lot of ClickBank products have an opt-in email
form on their landing page. If someone opt-ins to an email list and then
purchases the product through the email promotion do I still get the
commission?
If not, should I avoid products that have an opt-in email?

I have been having the same question. When I was looking on Clickbank today their FAQ states if you go all the way to the payment page you can scroll down to the bottom and you should see your affiliate ID. I tried this and my id appeared at the bottom. I have been promoting this one site for the last three days and have received over 90 clicks with a 3.2% CTR. However, I have not had one sale. I am new at this and not sure if I am doing something wrong.

I feel your pain. I'm a newbie as well and I'd hate to see my advertising
dollars go to waste! :x

Can I ask if you are promoting the music industry? I am going directly from Google Adwords to the site I am promoting. I did not setup any website or landing page as an intermediate stop. Does anyone know if this would have and affect on not getting any sales?

Right now I'm promoting some eBooks. Since I'm promoting them
on my content sites I'm not using PPC to get traffic. I'm using a variety
of free means to promote the sites (forum postings and the like).
About getting sales - I just made my first sale this week. Since I'm
a newbie (two months into affiliate marketing) I don't feel like I have the
experience to answer your question completely. But from what I've read,
if you get 1 sale per 100 clicks on your link then you are doing good.
Jeremy, the moderators, as well as the other high earners would have
better advice, though.

You'll get credit for the sale as long as the ClickBank cookie is on the users machine. So if you send the traffic through your CB link to an opt-in form and the user buys two days later through an e-mail from the merchant you'll still get credit for that sale (as long as another affiliate doesn't overwrite your cookie).
Best,
Jeremy

Here's one thing to keep in mind...
There are some merchants on Clickbank
who will use a different URL to promote their
product within their sequence than the normal
affiliate URL.
For example, let's say the merchant's site
is merchant-domain.com. The merchant
may use a squeeze page to get people to
join their sequence, knowing that affiliates
are driving a lot of the traffic to that squeeze
page.
Then, inside the sequence, rather than using
merchant-domain.com, they might use
merchantdomain.com where merchantdomain.com
is actually using an affiliate ID or even
some other payment processor (Paypal, etc.).
That way, the merchant gets his cut and
the affiliate's cut.
A cynical person might think that the
merchant is being sneaky and is trying to
cut the affiliate out of the deal.
I'd suggest signing up for the sequence just
to make sure no funny business is going on.

Good point. These jokers should be banished from ClickBank and exposed for what they're doing. These merchants are few and far between, but they do exist.
