Quit My Day Job!

Submitted by Green Giant on Wed, 08/01/2007 - 05:29.
I'm pleased to announce that today, August 1st, is the last day of work at my day job in transportation safety research. I'll be pursuing affiliate marketing full time, effective tomorrow! My affiliate income has exceeded my salary by a large margin. I owe it to Jeremy, whose book got me started, the helpful members of QYDJ and other forums and blogs, and a lot of hard work, ambition, and persistence.
I could not be more grateful and excited about this opportunity. I look forward to many more long hours creating, refining, and learning. Thanks to all!
Mike

Thanks all!
I'm a morning person so I was up early, and I've been running all over the place today trying to finalize things at work. Who knew there was so much involved in quitting your job?
I started in October of last year. Like some notables on this forum, I had to sell some stuff to raise capital to fund my earliest PPC campaigns. My favourite electric guitar went to a guy in Chile through eBay. All in all, I put up about $1000 of my own money initially.

Mike:
That’s great news. I hadn’t read this post when I sent you that PM; the day after you quit your day job! This is all very inspiring!
I wish you continued future success and hope to be posting the same message in the not so distant future….Derrick.

I've got some "life" related stuff going on in September that would make CJU a last minute decision if I can make it. I understand how great of an event it is and after spending so much time with CJ reps at Affiliate Summit, I really hope I can make it.

That is just amazing! You really are an inspiration that hard work and determination will win the day. I have just started myself. The HPAM book is a real eye opener. Funding for me is a second job. So I now work 4 nights a week
to put toward my business. What I am lacking is time management. Can anyone provide tips on time management? This is a real beast for me.
Congratulation
Congratulation Mike! can't wait to quit my daily job as well.
Quit My Day Job!
Congrats, Mike. I'll probably never quit my day job, (I love DSL Engineering), but I'm going to keep swinging my pickaxe until this stream of income starts flowing!
Ronaldec7 - Action plan is important!
Hi donaldec7.
I also lack time management. I read my inbox full of emails everyday, then go checking out some stuff i find interesting. Watch some internet marketing movies and discovering new ways of online business promotion such as Web 2.0. I also read stuff in forums.
I decided going straight into affiliate ppc marketing, but recently i read and discovered from Blogging To The Bank, that money can be made from having blogs and interlinking them together into blog networks. I feel like trying it out, but according to my action plan, my 1st priority was affiliate ppc marketing.
Maybe i should devote one or two hours a day into blog building and the rest of time to affiliate ppc marketing? I think that having your day action plan will help you in time management.
So maybe i will devote 10% of my time to blog building and 10% to email, status, forum checking, IM news etc, but all the rest of 80% i will give to affiliate ppc marketing.

Like most people interested in affiliate marketing, I've read about dozens of ways to make money online. It used to seem like I should pursue several different methods to see what made money and what I was best at. However, I've read several successful internet marketers that say that you should focus your efforts to one particular method. Become an expert in that method and you'll meet with success. Spread yourself too thin, and you'll end up with a little knowledge about a lot of things and it won't get you anywhere.
I'll agree with this. I've done some consulting and website design work recently and all I found was that it took away from my PPC affiliate marketing efforts. I believe I missed opportunities because of this. I've resigned to rededicate myself to becoming an absolute expert in PPC affiliate marketing and I think that's the best way forward for me.

Yea I have made money in the past with adsense and a few other online ventures. But they all seem to dry up and fade away. I want to become an expert on PPC because I know that I don't have to focus on traffic if I can buy it. It gets overwhelming with all the information on SEO, internet marketing, social media. I decided to just go for PPC and only apply other tactics on well converting ppc campaigns.
