What sources do you use to find new online categories... top selling ebay products? www.trendwatching.com? www.buzz.yahoo.com? venture capital sites? products that are always updated such as electronics, cars, computers?medicines? or ailments seeking cures such as cancer or diabetes and all the drugs and associated products {interesting source - http://www.seomoz.org/popular-searches} OR do you go to CJ, Linkshare, Adzoogle and find new programs and start there?

Methods to find new niches
I usually just go after whatever I'm interested in. I'm really into a certain automotive category, just because I have a passion for it. I drive it, so I market the parts for it. Granted, I dont make anything, but thats what I shoot for ;)

Browse niche topic magazines of interest to you at a library or your fav. bookstore and look at the products in advertisements in those magazines. Next, go to the Google Adwords tool and see what the search volume is for that particular product. Rinse and repeat with the other products in that magazine and you could create a whole blog/website around the subject with offers from online merchants.
Check out Consumer Reports and likewise research the favored products on Adwords.
Don't forget your local paper and offers in the mail - they provide a wealth of information on hot products.
It's Spring! What are hungry golfers looking for? "cheap golf clubs", "used golf carts", "lot of golf balls", "cheap tennis rackets", "used Calloway golf club bag for sale", etc. =)
What are other Spring items - plant/flower seeds, planting related items, new clothes...
What does your local Walmart/department store change on their shelves when seasons change? Go to Walmart.com and find out. That's what people who shop at Walmart are hungry for. Walmart has done their product research and know exactly what's going to sell.
p.s. they have an affiliate program ;)

Some other niche
Some other niche brainstorming ideas:
* Books on trends. I recently read "Microtrends", by Mark Penn, and got some good ideas
* Popular online forums. Look at sites like BoardReader.com to see which forums are most popular, and - more importantly - which have really active membership. Figure out what products appeal to those people.
* Top-selling products on ClickBank
* Popular Google and Yahoo Groups
* Amazon Bestsellers, and Movers & Shakers
* PayPal Shops
* Popular questions that are being asked on Yahoo Answers (what products can solve those problems?)
* Top searches on WordTracker

Great suggestions, guys. Here are a few additional ones...
* Get on eBay's email list and then watch what they're promoting. If it's something you have an interest in, do the research to see if the profitability is there.
* Catalogs that come in the mail are a great source of ideas. Browse through them and... you know the drill.
* Barnes & Noble has an extensive newsstand. Spend some time browsing through the trade journals and magazines for new ideas.
* Tourist information centers offer all sorts of material about an area. Again, browse through all the brochures and magazines to see what's popular and interesting that might make a good niche.
* Reality TV shows are another place to look, particularly programs from channels like HGTV (Home & Garden Television), DIY Network, Fine Living and Food Network. All of these cover topics that interest a wide audience and seem to have staying power.
