Is It OK to Promote A Not-So-New Digital Camera?

Jeffrey's picture

Hello,

Following Jeremy's guidelines I found what it seems a good niche. It's a digital camera with little or no competition. However, it appeared on the market at the end of 2006.

With today's rapid changing technology, I'm wondering if this "little or no competition" is due to the fact that it's not very popular anymore. How do I know if there's enough market before I spend time or money trying to promote it?

Thanks,

Jeffrey

That's an interesting question... See the camera itself may still have search volume, but most of that could be coming from existing customers - especially if the camera is almost 2 years old.

Can you still buy the camera for merchants like Buy.com and Amazon? If not, eBay could be an option.

Either way, I would only target slam dunk keywords - e.g. buy (camera), used (camera), (camera) lowest price etc.

Last but not least, you'll want to a strong list of negative keywords to suppress your ad from showing to existing owners.

Best,

Jeremy

There *is* an empirical way of seeing if people are searching to buy, or if they're existing customers - drive traffic to a one-question survey using askdatabase.com, and ask them what they're looking for.

This obviously requires some effort, but for a little bit of money you could find out conclusively what the intent is behind those searches.
