Is it a detractor if there 800# is prominent on a merchant's site?

I was curious what people's take is on this. I found a niche that looks interesting to try with a lot of cheap long tails, the home page for the merchant has an 800# on it for phone orders in a prominent location. It seems like that would x out my referal, I should probably ask my AM about it come monday. Any thoughts/experiences on this one?

I would make sure they have
I would make sure they have a mechanism for tracking phone conversions. If not, definitely bring it up with the AM.
The AM might not have the ability to change it right away, but if they get enough pressure from their partners they will re-evaluate it.
As an alternative, see if you can send traffic to a page that doesn't have the # prominently featured.
Check to see what others say about the program first...
I like Jeremy's alternative idea.
I personally would not invest any money into a campaign that has blatant commission leaks. Defeats the whole purpose to me unless your testing it for that very reason.
I suggest researching the program's phone based conversions at several affiliate forums to see other's experience first before investing your own money.
Just to add, Some merchants
Just to add,
Some merchants will hide the 800 # when an affiliate link is followed in to their site. Just something to check for too.
