Just look at the top of the source code for most any site, and you will see w3 something or other at the very top, meaning the site is w3 compliant.

At W3Schools you will find all the Web-building tutorials you need, from basic HTML and XHTML to advanced XML, SQL, Database, Multimedia and WAP. [thats what they say any way]

This is site is huge and also contains a php tutorial, and FREE is their mission statement.

I have been using http://w3schools.com for a very longtime. This site is by far the most intuitive and comprehensive site out there.

The tutorials and "live" labs are second to none.
