Press releases....

I've learned quite a bit about SEO, but there is one thing I don't really get. I just read the section in HPAM, so I thought I'd ask.

I don't get press releases. Typically, a PR is for something really newsworthy, done by a company or person newsworthy. Anyone have any examples of a press release that helped them out?

Hi Brian:

A press release is basically a free way to get the word out about a particular product, person, company, or what ever may be newsworthy to someone. When you put out a press release, you're hoping to get it printed, or a story done about it in some publication.

You can do a press release about a new product you are promoting, but it would probably work best with a product of your own. Here's a place to do it: http://www.prweb.com/ but it costs some $$$.

A great place to get some free press is: http://www.rsspad.com/ it's free from prweb, and it's a way to get a link from a PR6 web page (at least while you're still on the first few pages).

Check it out...Derrick.

It's kinda a calculated gamble. Just put it out there and TRY to get a few links or some traffic. And thanks for the rsspad link.

Hey Brian, to be honest the press release is a diminished seo tool and more of a way to get the word out to journalists and bloggers. It does get picked up on related PR type sites but the linik value is negligible.

If you want the SEO effect stick to contacting journalists and bloggers to get a direct link from them.
