Keyword Limits

After trying to upload a new, tightly-themed campaign in Adwords Editor, I got this message:
"AdWords Editor is unable to check or post some of your changes, because doing so would cause you to exceed AdWords account limits..."
I have just over 15,000 keywords, which seems relatively small in comparison to some I've read about. Several reliable sources (including Jeremy, Amit Mehta, and the SpeedPPC training videos) suggest using misspellings, multiple matching variations and other ways to maximize keywords.
Google, on the other hand, states the following:
Don't ...
* Include these variations: misspellings (french cusine), capitalization (French cuisine), incorrect spacing (french cui sine), hyphens (french-cuisine).
* Use variations that are more than three words long (best for unique markets and product names).
* Use a three-word keyword in multiple matching variations at one time: [buy red bicycle], "buy red bicycle," buy red bicycle.
Do you compile massive keyword lists and then delete those with few or no impressions? And if so, how long do you wait before doing so? Or do you get around this limitation by creating a new account?
Thanks.

Clear as mud...
Thanks, Dan.
It seems to to me that there's no clear guideline from Google. Time to slash and burn.
Kensav, I have a little over 5,500 ad groups.
David, Is this a new
David,
Is this a new Adwords account? How many other campaigns are you running? Adwords has a 50k limit for new accounts and a 10k limit per campaign. This is probably what you are running into. When testing a niche it's better to start small rather than blow all your ad spend on a bunch of low traffic/long tail keywords. Segment your keywords into related categories and test a couple of them. If you see that you are consistently getting sales, then you know you have found a good niche. Next start fine tuning the campaign until you are making a profit and once you see continual profit, then expand your campaign to include the 10s and thousands of keywords.

Good advice. But...
Jason,
Good advice. I'll follow your plan from now on.
My account is not new, however. I opened it with a couple of poorly run campaigns a couple of years ago. I started ramping up in August of last year with a few better ones and now I have 25 active campaigns, each with 100+ ad groups. My account is nowhere near the limits you mentioned.
