MSN Backlinks

MSN doesn't discriminate against the source of links. The sheer bulk of links is what counts.

The cool thing about MSN is not as much competition so it's often easier to rank higher. Also it can convert better than other search engines, depending on your product. I've heard it does well for sports affiliates. Test.

If you learn your product does best on MSN start looking for links. If you still want Google you'll have to be careful not to buy links or get links from pages that will hurt you (spyware, spammers, or anyone using black hat methods to get traffic or business).

Guy Kawasaki disabled links to his blog probably for this reason.

Good point. MSN loves links... They don't care where they come from or the quality of the link - it's all about volume.

This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. If you're a webmaster it's relatively easy to rank well in MSN. However, it's also easier for people to spam their search engine too, which could hurt their relavancy and market share.

My 2 cents.

I think they upgraded their algorythm. Same thing happened to me. To be honest, I thought the bulk link strategy had had its day. But I could be (and quite often am) wrong.
