Should I Give Up On Digital Cameras As A Niche?

Submitted by Jeffrey on Fri, 05/16/2008 - 22:00.
Hello,
I've follow Jeremy's steps to find a niche and I found a couple of good niches on two particular digital cameras. However I keep running into the same problems:
1. It's hard to find affiliate programs for a specific camera.
2. When you eventually find one, they don't have enough supply.
This last one is really bad because you run the risk of spending a lot of time and money building your landing pages and campaigns. Then once you finally get the traffic, the merchant runs out of products.
This is only the niche-finding stage, but I'm seriously thinking about focusing on other markets.
Any ideas or feedback?
Thanks,

Jeffrey -- I'm a newbie at affiliate marketing, so take this for what it's worth. If I were promoting digital cameras, I don't think I would be looking for a camera company with an affiliate program. Instead, I would look for a retailer like Wal-Mart, Amazon, Target, etc (as examples) that sells the cameras you are interested in. In fact, you could choose more than one. You don't have to promote everything the retailer has to offer. Just stick to your niche and promote the digital cameras they offer.
Hope that helps.
Hey Jeffery, What about focusing your site on 1 particular camera? Maybe something coming out soon or some new technology in CCD electronics that people will search for and want more info on and then BAM you got some links or banners where they can buy one.

You may want to diversify your focus and find a good long tail KW for "digital cameras" then use feeds from Amazon, or ebay where they have PLENTY of digital cameras for sale. I have a store for digital camcorders if you'd like to check it out, http://www.buydiscountdigitalcamcorders.com/. I use Ebay for my products.
Also the Flip Ultra is really a hot product right now, that is something to check into. I believe they are with CJ.

Hello,
In response to your comments:
- I checked Amazon a few weeks ago but they only pay 4% commission. The Tech Geek pays 8% but they're out of stock.
- My niche is based on 1 particular camera and my research seems to indicate that this is a niche with good demand and low competition.
- eBay sounds like another good option.
Hey genuwine, since you're already marketing cameras and similar products, I could learn a few tips from you.
The particular camera I'm considering came out on 2006. Is it too old to promote it?
Also, I'd like more information about eBay retailers. How to find them and what are their commissions compared to Amazon.
Thank you all for your great feedback!
