Google Custom Serach for AdSense

tlainevool's picture

Just to follow up on something Jeremy was talking about.

You can have a Google Custom Search Engine that you do get paid for clicks on the ads through AdSense. See: http://googlecustomsearch.blogspot.com/2008/05/custom-search-expands-to-...

Sure but like Jeremy said

Sure but like Jeremy said today you can loose clicks to people doing searches that are looking for more info. Also unless you pay for the premium option you dont get the analytics that a custom or built in search will give you with running a CMS.

Using a CMS you can see what people are searching for most often and possibly add content to your site to prevent them for searching. Also you tend to find new keywords that you didnt think of previously.

CMS is the way to go!

CMS is the way to go!

I have been playing with both...

Drupal http://drupal.org/
Joomla http://www.joomla.org/

With these CMS you get a blog, forum, and site searching and a ton of great features.

These CMS are not for the faint of heart. If you don't have any programming or development skills then customize these CMS will be daunting. However, right out of the box they provide a wealth of features.

My suggestion is to download both and take each for a test drive.

how much harder than editing WP php...

Gonna try to install joomla on a spare domain tomorrow and play... is it really that hard to customize?

These CMS's are easy to setup, but customizing them takes a little more work. If you go with a CMS like Joomla there are thousands of professional designers/developers who can help you customize your site. Drupal is more powerful, but I don't think there are quite as many supporters - yet.

On Joomla

Joomla also has a number of reference books out there and huge community following if you have the time to play with it some and get used to how things are done with it. I agree with Jeremy Drupal is more powerful but the following and the assistance with it is not even close to that of Joomla, but I am sure it will grow as all communities do. Drupal seems to be getting more of its far market share as time goes on.

Jeremy you say Drupal is

Jeremy you say Drupal is more powerfull than Joomla, and what if you compare Joomla and Wordpress. Or can you not compare the 2?

I've done a lot of research

Jeremy Palmer's picture

I've done a lot of research into various content management systems. I've also used both Joomla and WordPress.

In my opinion Joomla is a better CMS solution for the long haul, but WordPress (in my opinion) is more simple. Both have large support/design/developer communities, which is a big plus.

The only downside of WordPress is that it was designed to be a blog, and has been stretched to be a CMS. It can work, but it's not going to be as flexible.

You can compare the two.

You can compare the two.

Joomla was created as a CMS and has blogging capabilities. Wordpress was created as a blogging tool but has recently been very successfully used as a CMS. Personally, I prefer WP but only because I've used it more and I think the code is cleaner than Joomla. The last time I looked at Joomla, (maybe a year ago) it still used tables for layout!

oh.. if it uses tables....

I'll have to learn Drupal instead....

I believe 1.5 features CSS,

I believe 1.5 features CSS, rather than tables.

I agree with your sentiments about WordPress.
