What's the deal when you get declined immediately?
I have a number of websites listed in my account, and always at least 1 is relevant to the merchant.
I email the merchant and ALMOST NEVER get a response.
thanks.
Try
Try calling them and explain the situation, this usually works.

Where do you find the phone #
These are big companies - where do you find the phone #?
In in the links section on
In in the links section on CJ, when you're looking through the list, you'll usually see the company name followed by >>View Links.
If you click on the company name, you'll see all the information about the company. Sometimes the merchant will have a phone number listed, but most of the time just an email address. You might be able to contact CJ directly and see if they can be of any help. Unfortunately, if you're not a CJ Performer, I'm not sure if they'll be able to help too much. Before I became a CJP, this would frustrate me so bad. I had a domain ready to promote their product and I knew I could be a benefit to them, but they didn't want to answer me. Also, many affiliate managers also double as the marketing manager at a company, so they may just be very busy.

Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.
Always happens to me
I was glad to see I'm not the only one who gets this push back from Merchants, I have a number of travel merchants who pop up as declined on application.. it can be very frustrating.

I had similar experience and almost all the times following a detailed email I sent the merchant in which I explain who I am, what's my site and why it would benefit the merchant, I get approved. If I don't get approved I do get an email with a reasons.

Frustration
It goes to show you that affiliate marketing these days takes a lot of determination. I created a website around Verizon FIOS only to find out that they rejected me immediately after I signed up.
I wrote them a very nice email explaining my unique selling proposition, and the only thing I received was a reply (probably from an admin) that my email was being forwarded to the right department. Never heard from them again.
Here we are, willing to spend money on PPC campaings for these merchants and they are "too good" for us.
You know what?
Don't give up. Try someone else. Perhaps in a totally different niche.
There are all kinds of people out there, LOTS of them, in the Internet world, buying ALL kinds of things.
Don't fret about it and move on.
As far as I am concerned, I probably won't renew the domain name I designed for FIOS.
Best of luck.

Is this the Verizon program
Is this the Verizon program in CJ? If so, e-mail me your details (http://quityourdayjob.com/contact) and I will follow up with their affiliate manager.
Getting approved for certain
Getting approved for certain programs can be a challenge. 7/10 the culprit is an unresponsive affiliate manager. I have a hard time understanding where they're coming from sometimes. They'll spend 90% of their time trying to recruit a handful of super affiliates, when they have hundreds of new affiliates who are excited to promote their product/service knocking on their door.
My advice - DON'T GIVE UP! The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you really want to get into their program you won't be turned away by an unresponsive affiliate manager. Successful people get what they want because they go after it and take it. Keep sending the e-mails, pick up the phone, and try different contacts at the company.
