Marketing to a group

Hi,
I am associated with a few large groups. I am pretty certain that if I can provide something branded to the group it would be used. Since it is a large group, there are different interest. Do I follow the one niche model or should another approach be used. What do you think? If you think it is a good idea, what incentives can I offer to attrat members to the site. What about site features. Thanks.

Could you elaborate a little

Sorry for the late response, I was looking for this thread. I belong to a very active school alumni, and a large pulblic service/volunteer group. I was thinking of creating a site targeting those groups. The site would contain all the things we have learned (Web 2.0, articles relevant to those groups, blog/forum,...). The site could not contain official logos but would have similar colors and maybe the groups name, school nickname, or mascot name is mentioned. The group would know that the site is targeted to them. As an example, I set up a site for the alumni and it includes vacation deals, hotel rentals, car rental, maybe some retail. Or do I throw out a wide net and do something like set up a mall (like a EBates but smaller - I'm not trying to compare with EBates because there is only one EBates). Just thinking there may be some loyality to the site since it is customized to the group.
I hope this is clear. If so, what do you think. Is an Adwords campaign the best way to generate traffic. What about incentives.
As we go through the sessions I am learning so much more, my original question has changed some. I am not putting all my eggs in this basket, I have some single niche ideas that don't target a particular group this way. I appreaciate your input. Thanks.
I would suggest you follow
I would suggest you follow your instincts and build a site targeted at the group to which you belong. I wouldn't try a shopping mall type site because they tend to be too wide in scope and you want to be more targeted than that. AdWords is a good way to generate traffic as long as you have something to sell once the traffic arrives to offset your costs.
Thanks
Thanks. This is one of a few ideas I am bouncing around. The groups are small in comparison but I think I can get a loyal following.
Starting with a group of
Starting with a group of people who have common interests is a good idea - but make sure those interests are narrowly defined. What products and services do they use? What common problem are they trying to solve? What are their goals?
