Nice find. It doesn't look like they account for the different relative sizes between FireFox and IE. It seems like fonts in IE are a tad bit smaller than FireFox - but only a web designer would notice...
I get the impression, from speaking to 'regular people' (i.e. not those involved in web design etc.) that FF is gaining in popularity and becoming the browser of choice. Just as Mac is now the trendy computer to buy, FF is the browser to be seen using (or Safari of course).
That doesn't alter the fact the ems tool has shortcoming with regards to IE but, let's be honest, IE has so many shortcomings of its own I don't think another one will really stand out!
I think FireFox 3 is going to be the end of IE. I haven't tested it out yet, but from what I've heard it's going to make IE look like the Lynx Browser ;)
It's very good. I'm using FF3 Beta 5 in Ubuntu and it does indeed make IE6 look like something from a former age!
