Does Navicat work with 1and1 ?

oceandoctor's picture

Navicat is one of those incredible tools that is the answer to my prayers and leaves me wondering how I never came across it before. (Again, thank you, Jeremy!)

I've spent much of this afternoon trying to get Navicat working with 1and1, where all of my mySQL databases live on my dedicated server. I've tried the standard approach, SSH, SSL, HTTP, and nothing seems to work. I've read that 1and1 doesn't permit direct connections to mySQL databases from "home PCs" (their language) but thought that the HTTP tunnel would do the trick -- alas, no.

Has anyone had any success using Navicat with 1and1 hosting? Thanks, and great session, Jeremy.

Hi David - I'm not sure

Hi David - I'm not sure about 1&1 supporting Navicat. Most prime time hosts do support these kinds of connections. I know that BlueHost and HostGator do. Have you tried contacting 1&1 about it. I'm curious to know myself.

Best,

Jeremy

Hi,

iam able to setup with hostmonster. This following reply from them, helped me - "It looks like your local ip address has not been placed on our servers firewall. You can do that from the cpanel by going to update billing information."

However, i was able to access the databases locally (wamp server) with navicat. I downloaded the oms sql and the folder i installed oms to local wamp server, and ran a roi report from it. Also able to work with database via navicat.

Setup Navicat for XAMPP(Local) & Host Monster(BlueHost)

Setup for my localhost was a snap, just make sure you have Apache and MySQL running first.
Didn't find much in the forums at hostmonster, but I did find a great post at
bluehostforum.com/showthread.php?t=9757.

1.) Login to cPanel...Go to the "Update contact/Billing Info Icon"...Go to the bottom of the page in
Customer Preferences. you have to white list your IP. Look for 00.00.000.000./00 (My IP) in the menu

2.) Submit a ticket to hostmonster support center
In the subject line I put: SSH/Shell access required for Navicat 8
Please make necessary arrangements
Attached a jpg file of my driver's license. (required for SSH)

Received email from Support about 15 minutes later. Stating that SSH has been enabled on your account.
You need to use your unix user name (the 8 character username) and the password for your hosting account.
I couldn't believe they were so quick to respond.

3.) Fired up Navicate...looked through their help files under SSH.
Your have to address each Data base one at a time.

Click the "Connection" Icon on the left

Under the "General" Tab:

Connection Name: ********_*** (Name of Database)
Host name/IP address: localhost
Port: 3306
User Name: ********_*** (Database User Name)
Password: ********** (Database Password)

Under the "SSH" Tab:

Check the box labeled: "Use SSH Tunnel"
Host name/IP address: 00.000.000.000. (yourdomain.com)
Port: 22
User Name: unix username (cPanel Username)
Authentication Method: Password
Password: Password for your hosting account (cPanel Password)

4.) Click the "Test Connection" button on the bottom left.
Once you've got positive confirmation, click OK...then you can check out your dbase.

Rinse and Repeate...

Thanks for all that you've done for us Jeremy.

Best Wishes
