Remote Computer Access

I want to outsource some content creation among other things. I have software that I would like my employees to use so that things are done a certain way. I also have spread sheets and other information that will have to be accessed from the web.
Rather than buying extra software for contractors I would like to set up my spare computer as a work station for some of the work that I want to outsource.
Any suggestions about how to set up remote access? Software that I should use or instructions on how to do it myself?

Is using Google Apps no
Is using Google Apps no option? Especially for Word and Excel like applications Google Apps could be an option.
Re other types of software you also need to look in your Software License Agreement to see if you are allowed to put the software on such a work station.

Google Apps is my second
Google Apps is my second choice. I'm not really comfortable having everything I do open to G. Maybe I'm just paranoid but the less G knows or has access to about an online business the better. For example, link building strategies that I want to outsource and track with spreadsheets. I would like to have this info in a private location not where G can access it. Not black hat stuff but maybe gray hat. I know I'm only a small fish in a big ocean but better safe than sorry.
If outsourced work can be done on a work station it would be more efficient and everything I have outsourced would be done in one location.
Software License Agreements is something I will have to look into but I don't think it will be a problem. I think most of them limit use to one machine.
Maybe not practical, but something I am considering. I'm just looking at all of my options.

I am currently using web
I am currently using web ex's service called PC Now to connect from my PC at work to my Mac at home. It's not perfect between different operating systems, but if you are going to do PC to PC, it should be much better. They have 30 day trial. The downside is the monthly fee, the upside is that you can connect from any internet connected computer and there is no need to worry about firewalls, port forwarding, IP addresses, etc. I also like the fact that there is an option for phone based pin # verification to add security to the login process.

2 Options So Far
Thanks Bart,
Web Ex's PCNow looks promising for 10.35 per month. The other one I have found is GoToMyPC for 19.95 per month.
URLs below if anyone else is interested.

You could also use LogMeIn
Hi Don,
You might also want to try LogMeIn. It offers similar functionality to PCNow and GoToMyPC but it is totally free for remote access. We only charge if you want additional features such as file transfer, remote-to-local printing, etc. We encourage everyone to use our free version - I hope this helps you and others here if you are paying but only using remote control.

Steve

Remote access
Remote access software:
Gooer.com - for the non techie.Very easy to set up. Uses the Java version of Real VNC so you can connect from any browser without having to install software on the client computer. Approx $50 per year.
Real VNC - Same as above but requires a bit of techie knowledge to configure correctly. Free
Remote access via XP
Hi
I was told that if you have two computers running on windows XP, you can make the remote one as a Server and you can then access with your laptop from anywhere via dail-up or via internet. Then you need to configure through your router firewall.
