Speed PPC / Efficient PPC

Barry_G's picture

According to AdWords TOS -

" You can have up to 100 ad groups in a campaign and up to 25 in an AdWords account. "

http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=40907&cbid=1uz181...

What am I missing here?

These tools claim to create ad groups, swiftly using one kw/ad group for supreme relevancy.

Amit mentioned 1 kw/ad group (I think)

"Efficient PPC uses a sophisticated engine to take your basic keywords and phrases, and combine them into tens of thousands relevant key phrases."

TENS OF THOUSANDS???

100 ad groups + 1keyword/ad group x 25 campaigns = 2500 keywords - Correct???

I don't see how this is possible. To achieve tens of thousands relevant key phrases, would one not need dozens of kw's / adgroup?

Please explain.

Thanks in advance

Barry

Google's TOS is old and/or

Google's TOS is old and/or outdated (i.e. wrong).

You can have as many

CT's picture

You can have as many adgroups you want in a campaign.
In an account, maximum 25 active campaigns.
In an adgroup, maximum 2000 keywords (exact, phrase & broad are three keywords)...

if I remember correctly.

Hi Bobby & CT So you guys

Hi Bobby & CT

So you guys are telling me that Google has misinformation on their Adwords help guide?

Or is this something (more that 100 adgroups in a campaign) that can only be gotten buy with until a human reviews your campaign?

pretty sure there is a 1000

pretty sure there is a 1000 ad groups per campaign limit.

I typically add more than 1

Jeremy Palmer's picture

I typically add more than 1 keyword per ad group. I have some ad groups with scores of keywords, and others with just 1. It really depends on how closely related they are.

As Amit mentioned at the beginning of his call - his way of structuring account is one way of doing it, and it's been particularly effective for him. You may find that you can squeeze a few more keywords into your ad group.

The general of thumb:

It's better to have more ad groups with fewer keywords, than it is to have fewer ad groups with more keywords... How is that for ambiguity :)

Hi Jeremy I get what you

Barry_G's picture

Hi Jeremy

I get what you mean, and thanks for the conformation.

However, if this Google policy - " You can have up to 100 ad groups in a campaign and up to 25 in an AdWords account. " http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=40907&cbid=1uz181... is still active,

how are these tools being used to " take your basic keywords and phrases, and combine them into tens of thousands relevant key phrases" without violating Goggles policy?

It would really suck to have a successful campaign shut down due to over expansion by using one of the tools is the main reason I'm asking.

Hi Barry,

Hi Barry,

It will not be shut down, because it will not get started. For instance, adwords limits my account to 25 active campaigns. I simply cannot activate a 26th campaign.

On Adgroup, I have campaigns that exceed 100 adgroups. If Google limited the adgroups to 100, I will not be able to add the 101th adgroup.

You can have more that 100

You can have more that 100 ad groups in a campaign. I have one campaign that has over 1200 ad groups in it. I have not had any issues with Google because of this.

google policy on adgroups

gonker's picture

google policy on number of adgroups is flexible ..

If you have some account history you can call them up and ask them to raise your account limits..

I really dont think launching a campaign of tens of thousands of keywords is a good way to start unless you are very experienced and have the budget to handle it. .

I have done it myself and it was hard to manage and costly ..

Now I am coming back to it .. sort out my campaign piece by piece

Thanks for all the replies

Thanks for all the replies and help. Points taken.

As I don't even have a thousand words in my vocabulary - lol - I would not have a clue as to how to start a campaign off with 10's of 1000's of kw's.

I understand it would be best to start much more small scale as to manage and properly track kws. but it seems with a click or two, the use of one of these tools could easily lend to things getting out of control.

Efficient PPC seems to have a very tempting trial offer.

Thanks again!
