How to setup downloading of eBooks, Whitepapers

Much has been said about having a free eBook or white paper.
I have one, now how do I distribute?
I use aweber and I would like to, of course, capture an email address in return for the eBook (I should, shouldn't I?).
Do I keep a separate mailing list for this or use my normal newsletter list and just tell them to unsubscribe if they don't want it?
Key Question:
I can have a custom thank you page to download eBook, but I still want it hidden on my site or controlled so there is no other way to get at it. I have the script program 'EZ Download Page Protector', but it's kind of confusing.
Any simple way to get all of this done?

Download Page/Newsletter List Question
Hi Will,
Are you using WP? If so, there is a plugin called Page Link Manager that allows you to keep a page you create from appearing in the site navigation.
About the newsletter/report question-it's up to you if you want to give them the newsletter for their email address after they get the report but initially they should just have to give you the email address to get your report.
Does that make sense?

As far as the lists go, it just gets confusing managing multiple lists in one site/ niche.
