Google and blogs

If I'm going to be setting up a blog using blogger.com and adding a new relevant and original content article every week, does it matter if the blog is hosted on their server or mine? It's pretty easy to set it up on your own server, so I was thinking I would do that, but if there's no added advantage, it might not be worth it.
Thanks.
James

If you have your own server, why not use Wordpress. It's more flexible than Blogger and just as easy to set up.
I have a lot of experience with Blogger.com and have set up their blogs on my server a few times, so I'm more familiar with that. I might take a look at Wordpress and see what it has to offer.
Thanks for the info.

The obvious benefit in using WordPress is that there are TONS of free plug-ins that have been developed to improve a blog, and they only take a minute to install.
I've had a couple of full-fledged sites developed using WP as a CMS, and highly recommend it.

I ran my filmmaking blog for a little over a year on blogger and really didn't have any want to switch over. However I decided that wordpress offered alot more opportunity than blogger plus google owns blogger and if they don't happen to like something you say, they can just shut your blog down or so I read. Probably a rarity but still!
I switched to wordpress for my blog about 6 months ago and I would never go back. I was so taken with wordpress, I, as well have a couple of sites, not blogs, but websites that look nothing like blogs on wordpress using it at a cms. It super handy cause I just login and can edit my site anytime. Plus, there are SOOO many themes out there for wordpress blogs its crazy. My blog looks alot better in my opinon now than it ever did on blogspot. Check it out if you want, http://skeever.com (not aff link, however some links on the blog are aff links, beware)

Thanks for the detailed info, I'm definitely considering Wordpress. I found out the virtual dedicated server I'm hosting on doesn't have it installed, but I can install it, so I've just got to go through that and I should be good.

I am going through the process of deciding whether to continue on blogger or switch to WordPress. Besides having to figure out the WordPress installation, is it difficult to transfer my current posts to a new WordPress blog?
Thanks guys,
Scott
Scott,
After you have installed Wordpress, click the Manage tab, then click Import. You will be given the option to choose from a list of blog platforms including Blogger. Just select Blogger and give it your account information and the rest is history.

The initial install of wordpress takes minutes, its super simple, if your web host provides fantastica in the cpanel it is even easier. Just type in some basic information, over at blogclassroom, they have some free videos to watch and one of them walks you through setting up wordpress through fantastica. Then follow jason's advice about importing your blogger blog and your set up dude.
best of luck

If you plan to run multiple WordPress blogs and your hosting provider allows you shell access to set up symbolic links, I would highly recommend setting up Virtual Multiblog:

I have 5 separate WordPress sites set up this way, but they only use one WordPress installation. It makes upgrades, plugins, maintenance, etc. very easy, as any changes are automatically applied to all blogs. The only issue I have run into so far is with an XML sitemap plugin. By default, it was writing a file to the WP directory called 'sitemap.xml'. I found that the same file kept getting overwritten by whichever site updated it last. I changed config settings to give each site a separate sitemap filename and re-submitted to Google.
