Keyword in title Vs Blending in

I'm curious to hear how other affiliates deal with fitting their keyword into the ad title on Google when the amount of space they give you is so much less than on Yahoo.

I run into a couple of problems. I try to never just have the keyword in my ad title. If you do a search for pretty much any topic, 90% of the ads will have the keyword and only the keyword in the ad title. Not only does this look horrible, but you get lost in the crowd and it's not grammatically correct.

If I’m bidding on a keyword like Auto Loans, I will try to have an ad title like Find Auto Loans or Get an Auto Loan. This example would fit on Google, but what if your keyword is Auto Loans for a Used Car. There’s no way you’re going to fit that into Google. You can use the root keyword of Auto Loan, but that isn’t exactly what the user typed in.

I agree James! I really wish Google would extend the title to 35 chars...

Like you said, it's all about making your ad stand out. If your ad is 1 of 5 that have the title and nothing else in the headline, good luck differentiating yourself.

One book that has useful

One book that has useful information on writing headlines is "AdWords for Dummies", by Howie Jacobson. The section on how to write headlines is brief, but there are a few good tips in there.

I've learned a tremendous amount on writing headlines from "Breakthrough Advertising", which apparently is a classic in copywriting. It was written 40 years ago by a man who ran his own direct marketing firm. I've heard that many businesses have made millions of dollars from following his step-by-step approach, and this is the only book that I would believe that claim.
