What Criterion Should I Use to Decide Between a Forum or Blog?

Jeffrey's picture

I'm not sure whether I should create a blog or a forum once my site is up and running.

I'm leaning towards a blog, based on personal preference.

Should I base it on personal preference or the type of site?

Are forums more time consuming than blogs?

Thanks,

Blogs are better for broadcasting, forums are better for discussions. Why not have both?

Firstly, what type of site is it? Why are you leaning toward a blog?

Depending on the type and function of the site, either a blog or forum might suffice.

Forums are sometimes more time consuming than blogs and other times aren't. It depends how many categories you have to manage, whether you have moderators to help out, how many posts and visitors you get etc.

You could look at what your competition is doing and try to emulate the most successful among them.

My site's theme is related to money matters, particularly spending less due to the current economic situation.

Here are my reasons for leaning towards a blog:

- I think a good blog can bring you more traffic if you select good and informative topics for your visitors.

- You have more control about the topics covered.

- Using a good, easy to follow format would make it easier for the visitors to find the specific information they're looking for.

Of course there may be more pros and cons I haven't thought about. In the meantime, I'll try to find more information about the pros and cons of forums vs blogs.

Thanks

Blogs certainly have more of a website feel to them rather than a repository of information which, basically, is what a forum is. I'd go with the blog.

Here's an idea for your 'How to obtain cheaper fuel for your car' section. Make biodiesel. Costs $1 gallon at most.
