Hostmonster Shared Hosting: using Addon domains

beckman's picture

Hi,

Please forgive me if my explanation doesn't sound quite right, I'm new at this.
I purchased a couple of domain names we'll call "mydomain.com" & "mydomain.net" to be used for a project I was working on.
I used the "Addon Domains" feature to install them.
1st. the "mydomain.com"
2nd. the "mydomain.net" was added as an Addon as well instead of parked because it would only allow me to redirect it to the primary url.
3rd. I used the "Redirect" feature to create a Permanent 301 Redirect from "mydomain.net" to "mydomain.com.
I checked the redirect with or without www. box
I did not check the Wild Card Redirect Box.

When I created the 2 Addon domains, cPanel created a sub domain for each one as well.
Because I'll be uploading my site to the "mydomain.com" (Addon domain) directly and using the 301 redirect to
to handle "mydomain.net" url. Should I make both of those sub domains
mydomain-net.primarydomain & mydomain.primarydomain.com inaccessible by using the Password Protect feature in cPanel?
Should I also password protect the Addon domain "mydomain.net" with the 301 redirect as well?

Any advise would be sincerely appreciated.

Best Wishes

Who is your web host? I'm not too familiar with the some of these nuances in Cpanel. Have you tried contacting your host provider about this issue?

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the response. I called them on the phone, but the guy
didn't seem to knowledgeable about the subject.
I probably shouldn't have placed the name of the host in the tittle.

"Hostmonster Shared Hosting: using Addon domains"

In cPanel when I was using the Addon Domain feature it had the following
at the bottom of the page.

*Note: This subdomain is for your added convenience. You will still be able to access your domain name directly
by going to mydomain.com.

Sub-domain:
mydomain.primarydomain.com

Sorry about not being very clear in my intent. I just thought it would be a good idea not to have useless folders hanging around. I thought it would be better to either password protect them or do away with them completely.
I'll call their tech. dept. again and try to get some help.

Thanks
