direct linking

I often test a campaign for the first month with direct linking. Meaning if I want to test the conversion rates on a product , I'll skip making a website and all that. Is direct linking for the first month okay? When I say direct linking, I am using the affiliate link provided by the merchant and I not going to a website or redirect first.
