Having orange/ amber

One of my favourite colors is amber or orange color.
It can look really nice as web page main theme. However, I also know the color of US prisoner shirt is amber. I suspect this is the reason that there are not many web sites using amber color as their main theme.
Will amber color theme web sites trigger certain unpleasant emotions? Particularly for US's visitor?
Thanks.

CT, I've seen sites combine the orange color with blue; I've thought that color scheme looked pretty professional. Sort of like Jeremy's site here, with the green and blue. I think as long as you incorporate another color or two into it, you shouldn't have any problems. Of course, this is just my opinion.
I do know what you mean about the color orange being associated with prison. I worked three years in a county jail, and yes, the inmate's uniform colors were orange. Now, whenever I see anyone dressed in all orange, such as sweats or scrubs, I think of that place. As I'm sure everyone knows, black and white stripes are another color combination associated with prison/jail.

Thanks, Deb.
Yeah, I think amber and blue or amber and grey (once problogger.net was using amber and grey) do look professional.

Since orange, with more hints of red, are also used in the US nation wide road system, it will get ones attention.
To me it means LOOK, PAY ATTENTION...it does mean caution, but at the same time, the message related to the orange color, that got your attention is usually one worthy of taking notice and paying attention to for your own benefit, and saftey in many cases.
Like - DETOUR : CONSTRUCTION AHEAD : ROAD CLOSED : CAUTION : UNEVEN PAVEMENT...etc
Using a bit of orange in places on your site that demand attention may be worth testing.
My 2 cents.

Thanks. A most valuable 2 cents...
It is really interesting to know how a culture perceives certain colors.
And it is valuable to know how visitors of a culture would react to a theme color when they arrive at our web sites.
Most of the time we go for safe them color like white and blue. At times, I just like to be more adventurous...
One good example of good application of unconventional choice of theme color is the metallic red and gray theme of original SpeedPPC's web site. Until I saw the web site, I used to think red is too strong to be a good web theme.
Off course, the safest is always blue and white.
