OMS and Dynamic Headlines

Giode's picture

Has anyone else had the problem where Optimize my Site removed the dynamic headline keywords at the end of the urls? That was the case for me today, unfortunately. Once the campaign was uploaded into YSM, the the url's (with the tracking codes attached) just land on Headline-less landing pages now.

I couldn't even begin to know why this is happening, or how to fix it. A little frustrating!

Hi Giode,

OMS is designed to preserve your destination URLs unless landing page URL on the export page is changed.

Do you know what version of OMS you're using? Are you on the latest mailing list?

Send me a PM with your contact info and I'll make sure you get taken care of.

Best,

Jeremy

Thanks Jeremy. PM sent.

I just wanted to update this thread and say that it was actually an error I had made, and not anything to do with OMS.

Thanks Jeremy for the speedy help and support. OMS rocks!

What end up being the problem if you don't mind me asking. Out of curiosity...

Hi Skeever,

The problem was that I created one url per adgroup (not individual urls per keyword in each adgroup). What would happen is when I export my campaign from Yahoo and imported it into OMS, somehow OMS wouldn't duplicate the the urls for each keyword in the given adgroup. If that makes sense? The result was my dynamic headlines not functioning correctly.

The solution, as Jeremy suggested, is to copy the adgroup url's to each keyword in the adgroup. So, rather than creating on url per Adgroup, copy that url to each keyword in that adgroup as well. This will ensure that OMS keeps the dynamic functions in order.

Hope that makes sense!

I'm having the same problem (OMS is not duplicating my destination URL for each keyword) - but in the Google Adwords file I import into OMS, I HAVE included a destination URL for each keyword.

What OMS is doing is cutting off the extension of each keyword-specific destination URL. (For example, if my destination URL is http://mysite.net/landingpage/ , OMS is cutting off the "/landingpage" when it produces the export file).

I have no idea why it's doing this. Could it be because I'm using a WordPress site?

Here's an example of a destination URL that is exported from OMS (I've replaced variables that are specific to my campaign with "XXXX"):

http://mysite.net/oms_track/tracking.php?utm_source=1&utm_campaign=XXXXX+XXXXX+%28Google+only%29&utm_ad_group=XXXX+XXXXXX&utm_content={creative}&utm_term={keyword}&utm_keyword=XXXX+XXXXXX&utm_kwid=3720&utm_landing_page=http%3A%2F%2Fmysite.net%2FXXXXXXX%2F

You can see that my landing page extension is missing from "mysite.net" (even though I've specified destination URLs for each keyword when importing from Adwords).

Any idea what could be happening when I export?

When I'm trying to export from OMS into Google, my destination URLs are getting cut off.

I've checked each of my keywords in OMS to confirm that I imported the destination URLs for each keyword, and they're all there. So I'm not sure why OMS isn't exporting with the correct destination URLs.

Here's an example of a destination URL that is exported from OMS (I've replaced variables that are specific to my campaign with "XXXX"):

http://mysite.net/oms_track/tracking.ph ... m_content={creative}&utm_term={keyword}&utm_keyword=XXXX+XXXXX&utm_kwid=3721&utm_landing_page=http%3A%2F%2Fmysite.net%2FXXXXX%2F

You can see that my landing page extension is missing from "mysite.net" (even though I've specified destination URLs for each keyword when importing from Adwords).

Any idea what could be happening when I export?

Thanks again for your help.

Moe
