Getting Affiliate Sites into Directories

I see that Jeremy has managed to get some of the sites he mentions in his book into some big directories like yahoo and business.com

I was wondering if anyone had had any trouble with this as many of those types of directories seem to frown on affiliate sites?

The only way to get your sites into the directories is to pay for it.

Yahoo is $299 http://dir.yahoo.com/
Business.com is $99 http://www.business.com/

Actually I have several sites in a variety of directories for free.

On the other hand I know you have to pay for yahoo and business.com and a bunch of other good directories.

What I am more interested in is if people have had problems getting a site that is totally built for affiliate marketing into directores?

I have many of my sites in directories. There are many free ones out there with high PR as well.

If you have a site filled with landing pages/sales copy, then you can have a tough time getting listed. If you have a content site that provides value, you can easily get listed.

I usually don't submit until I have 10-15 pages on my site. There are a variety of factors that can get you declined. Here are some:

1) too many ads
2) non-related niche/category
3) something that goes against their TOS
4) the language of your site
5) your site is full of crap:)

I think if you follow these guidelines, you'll have a better chance of getting approved.

I happen to own several web directories and I usually reject affiliate sites for the following reasons:

- the five ones mentioned by EZturnkey, plus:
- your site has broken links
- your description is crappy, not in English, or consisting of a chain of keywords repeated several times
- your site is nothing but a single landing page with sales copy on it
- your site competes with one of mine :) - I'm just joking, but it may apply for other directory owners

Sometimes, when I'm too tired, I may approve by mistake some crappy affiliate sites, but I never go back to delete them. I consider it a gift to that affiliate marketer.

In conclusion, it's always worth submitting, because you never know who's going to be tired today and let your site pass through ;)
