Questions About SEO

Okay, please be patient as I ask this. I am going to try to explain my self as good as possible.

I understand that searching with quotes "keyword" lets me know how many competitors I have for that keyword. So my questions are the following.

Does it matter how well I rank when I search for my keywords in quotes? If I show up on page 3 (#23 out of 41,300), is this good, bad or indifferent?

If placing well with the competitors, does this have any bearing on the overall placement in the search engines for my terms?

I hope I asked these questions well enough to make sense.

Hi Matt,

The closer you are to number 1 the better. Sometimes a 3rd page result on one SE could be within the 1st page of another. As you learn more about SEO, you'll get better at it. Just do your best using the info in Jeremy's guide, this forum, and integrate new ideas along the way...as you can only do what you can do.
