Great Success, just need to improve my ROI

Well, my first REAL month as an affiliate has been good...I was able to generate $35,000+ in sales promoting a few good products on clickbank, as well as through one other website I have.
I had to spend about $2000 on learning materials initally, and invest 3 months studying affiliate marketing, I REALLY wanted to get away from my other stock & ship web based businesses (10 years of that is enough!)
In any case, the book that really ignited the desire for me to jump into affiliate marketing with both feet was Jeremy's "Quit Your Day Job"!
More inspiring to me was his story...we probably live an hour apart, and it was easy for me to dream about producing the same results as he has (with hard work of course).
I just need to get my ROI higher now, but that will come as I refine my campagins and expand.
It's always a little scary when you max out your $32,000 credit limit on you credit card on Google Adwords, but in 2 more months I'll apply for net terms with Google...that will help!
In any case, there is certainly A LOT to be made in affiliate marketing if you will stick to it and measure and improve Everything on a daily basis initially! I've found that many people are lazy, and if you will simply apply yourself diligently to split testing, increasing ROI and selling benefits to your customers...you're already ahead of 95% of everyone else!
I just realized that if I was going to claim $35,000 in sales for the month that I should provide some proof...well here is one Clickbank account anyway for your review:

Sincerely,
Gary Bracken

Hi Gary,
This is an awesome success story! It sounds like you did the necessary ground work and then went for it. I know a lot of new affiliates who spend hundreds or even thousands on learning material, but never put their new found knowledge to work and execute.
Thanks for sharing with everyone.
All the best,
Jeremy

That's wonderful Gary, congratulations! $35,000 in one month shows that you are effectively implementing what you have learned.
I am curious about your ROI. You stated that "I just need to get my ROI higher now, but that will come as I refine my campagins and expand. It's always a little scary when you max out your $32,000 credit limit on you credit card on Google Adwords..." Does this mean that you spent $32,000 in your Google Adwords campaigns? If that's the case, is your ROI actually $3,000 for the month - i.e. $35,000-$32,000?

Solid stuff, grats! What ROI are you getting, if you don't mind sharing?
Great Success, just need to improve my ROI
Hi guys and thanks.
My ROI was actually higher the first two weeks in Jan that during the later half...due to a higher number of returns this time of year (both vendors say this is normal right now).
That shows me that taking Jeremy's advice is very important and necessary...branch out and cast a wide net so not all of your eggs are in one basket for obvious reasons.
RE credit card..I alread had a balance on it, so no I didn't spend the whole $32,000 in one month promoting these two products. My ROI the first half of Jan was around 75%, and that dropped to under 50% the later half...it should come back though.
Incidentally, 3/4's of my income and sales are coming from the CONTENT network on google! That isn't the case on some other products I'm promoting...wierd.
In any case, what I did in one month, Jeremy probably does in One Day!
IF you are going to do business with Clickbank (I chose to start out with them because I like getting paid every two weeks) you must know that they will with hold 10% of each check out for 90 days (to cover refunds) and you'll get that back after 90 days.
Also, any returns that occur up to 8 days after the close of the current pay period are debited out of that pay period (don't know why if they're already holding out 10% to cover returns).
The bottome line: Make sure and promote products with low return rates (check with the vendors first and get this info) and keep your ROI high, since you won't see 10% of that for 90 days!
Sincerely,
Gary Bracken

Congrats on some excellent results Gary. Interesting re the content network as I usually either turn this option off or just bid 1 or 2 cents. I do get a few sales but the conversion rate is way lower. This is on physical products though, so perhaps content works better for info products (or for some of them anyway).

I'd like to add my congratulations as well Gary. Good job! I've tried on and off with CB, but have never had any luck. I do somewhat better with physical products through CJ and other NWs.
Regarding the AWs content NW, I've been conditioned to believe that the traffic is low quality and to always disable it for my campaigns. I just took this on faith without testing it for myself. I also fool around with Adsense arbitrage on the side and recently set up some campaigns for arb just on the content NW. I wasn't making much on the search NW. To my surprise, I've made some affiliate sales from traffic that I've received from the content NW. This is after campaigns for the same sites didn't work too well on the search NW.
I think it's worth testing on the content NW. It probably also depends on the products and market also, but I think the content traffic may be getting better than it used to be for some reason.

Hi Guest!
Yes, if you do google content, make sure and keep it as a seperate campaign with search turned off...most probably know this already.
Another tip, when split testing ads on the content network, one thing I learned the hard way, is NOT to change your current ad (if you want to try and write a better performing ad) simply PAUSE that ad, and CREATE a new ad (easy enough).
Google doesn't like change and seems to penalize you when you change your content network ads often...I've seen much better results with the Pause and create techique.
Another piece of advise I received from an expert affiliate is to make sure and keep your content bids at 65% or lower than your search bids...something I didn't know before that could have saved me major cash!

Gary your advice about deleting ads is spot on. It's better to create a new ad than edit an existing one. Another reason to add rather than edit is to save your CTR history for each version of your ad copy. This will help you make better decisions when setting up new campaigns.
I'm going to publish your advice in the next book update (coming out this Wednesday) - Thanks!
Best,
Jeremy
