Yeah, the author was really thorough. He also has a guide on how to install Wordpress locally, which really helps when developing a theme.

I've made my own themes from following the tutorials he provides and even though I'm no techie they have turned out pretty sweet.
His tutorials even include how to install Worpress locally on your computer using XAMPP so you can build your templates right from your computer instead of online.
