Interesting - although the massive spike in traffic was short-lived I would imagine that the huge increase in backlinks would be the main long term benefit. It may send a red flag to Google though if your number of backlinks increase so dramatically almost overnight (they may think you have embarked on a big text link buying spree).
Interestingly, a search on the article title in quotes returned a whopping 64,500 results:
